Thabo Mthombeni

Thabo Mthombeni is a seasoned innovation and commercialisation senior specialist with over 18 years of experience managing Intellectual Property (IP) and Technology Transfer portfolios across the Water, Mining, ICT, and Health sectors. He has held strategic roles at leading South African research institutions, including the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research and the Nuclear Energy Corporation of South Africa. Thabo possesses extensive expertise in IP strategy, technology transfer, licensing, and business development. He holds an Honours Degree, a Certificate in Commercialization and Licensing from the University of California, Davis, and specialised Technology Transfer training from the University of Oxford. He is also a certified PRINCE2 Practitioner and holds an MBA from the University of Reading. He is currently pursuing a PhD in Technology Transfer, focusing on innovation commercialisation and intellectual property management.
Qhubekani Mpofu
Underwriting Executive
Qhubekani Mpofu leads the underwriting and compliance functions at Volune Financial Services, bringing 20 years extensive experience in risk management, insurance operations, and corporate governance. He holds an Honours in Risk Management. He oversees compliance management, regulatory reporting, underwriting operations, and strategic insurer relations. His responsibilities include managing FSCA correspondence and annual compliance reporting, designing and implementing company policies and procedures, and leading internal operational frameworks. Qhubekani also plays a key role in risk identification and assessment, claims handling, underwriting support, and negotiating renewal terms with leading insurance providers. In addition, he is responsible for arranging specialised insurance solutions for complex cases, supporting underwriting negotiations, and driving company marketing initiatives. His leadership contributes significantly to operational excellence, client service delivery, and sustainable business growth.

Lorna Marks is a Certified Accountant and finance professional with expertise in financial management, accounting, and risk management. She holds a Postgraduate Degree in Risk Management from MANCOSA and a Bachelor of Accounting Science Honours in Management Accounting from the University of South Africa. Lorna oversees the financial management and reporting functions at Volune Financial Services, ensuring sound financial governance, compliance, and strategic financial planning.
